Job Description

Leadership & Team Management:
Lead and manage the biomedical engineering team, ensuring effective coordination, skill development, and motivation within the department.

Oversee the recruitment, training, and development of biomedical engineers and technicians.

Monitor staff performance and provide guidance to ensure high-quality service and technical support.

Equipment Maintenance & Management:
Ensure the proper maintenance, calibration, and servicing of all medical equipment and devices in the hospital, including diagnostic, therapeutic, and monitoring devices.

Establish and maintain a preventive maintenance program for medical equipment, reducing downtime and maximizing equipment lifespan.

Develop and manage the hospital's biomedical inventory system, ensuring availability and readiness of equipment.

Regulatory Compliance & Safety:
Ensure compliance with local, national, and international standards and regulations related to medical devices (e.g., FDA, CE marking, ISO standards).

Oversee the testing, validation, and certification of new medical equipment to meet regulatory requirements.

Ensure that the biomedical team follows safety protocols and performs risk assessments on medical devices to mitigate potential hazards to patients and staff.

Budgeting & Resource Management:
Develop and manage the biomedical department’s budget, ensuring the efficient allocation of resources for equipment procurement, repairs, and maintenance.

Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining high standards of service delivery and patient safety.

Negotiate with suppliers for equipment purchases, service contracts, and maintenance agreements.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Communication:
Work closely with clinical departments (such as radiology, surgery, ICU) to understand equipment needs and resolve any technical issues promptly.

Collaborate with the IT department to ensure integration of biomedical equipment with hospital information systems (HIS) and electronic medical records (EMR).

Provide technical expertise and training to clinical staff on the proper use and troubleshooting of biomedical equipment.

Act as the liaison between the hospital’s executive team and external vendors, contractors, and regulatory bodies.

New Technology Evaluation & Implementation:

Stay current with the latest advancements in medical technology and recommend new equipment or systems that could improve patient care and hospital operations.

Oversee the installation, calibration, and integration of new medical devices into the hospital’s infrastructure.

Evaluate and validate the performance of new technologies, ensuring they align with hospital standards and meet the needs of clinical teams.

Incident Investigation & Reporting:

Investigate and resolve incidents related to biomedical equipment failures or malfunctions.

Maintain accurate records of equipment incidents, repairs, and troubleshooting, and report findings to the hospital’s safety committee.

Implement corrective actions to prevent future equipment-related issues.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation:
Develop and implement strategies to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the biomedical engineering department.

Foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging innovation in processes, technologies, and services within the hospital’s biomedical framework.

Skills & Competencies:
Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate and manage a technical team effectively.

Extensive knowledge of medical devices, equipment lifecycle management, and safety standards.

Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and critical thinking skills.

Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with clinicians, administrators, and external vendors.

Financial acumen to manage budgets and negotiate contracts with suppliers.

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
