Steps to take before the procedure
Our doctors at Medanta will prepare you thoroughly for the procedure. Discuss with the doctor about the medications that you have been taking and your medical history. You will need to make some alterations in your routine as well.

What happens during the treatment?
An ultrasound machine, vascular catheter, radiofrequency electrode, and console are used in the procedure of this laser treatment. Topical anaesthetic cream is used to minimise the discomfort. The physician will numb the area from which the catheter will enter. Ultrasound is used to develop an image of the varicose vein and to track the path of the catheter. A laser fibre or an electrode is extended to the desired location of the vein. The laser is then applied, resulting in heating of the veins. As a result, the vein will shrink and collapse.

After the procedure
After the procedure is over, a follow-up ultrasound is required to examine the treated vein and adverse effects, if any. The vein usually takes a week to close completely. The daily activities can be resumed immediately after the procedure is over, except travelling in airways. The patient is recommended to remain active, and avoid sitting for long hours.
The procedure is very effective as compared to other medical procedures, and has fewer complications and risks associated with it.
