He has been the organising secretary of the Indian society of Nephrology annual meeting twice in 2013 and 2017.

He is the Honorary secretary of the Indian Society of Nephrology and an executive member of both the Indian society of Nephrology and the Indian Society of Organ Transplantation.

Dr Shyam B Bansal is the Director of Medanta Institute of Nephrology and Kidney Transplant. Dr Bansal has been trained in Nephrology in SGPGIMS Lucknow, which is considered one of the best institutes for Nephrology in India. Dr Bansal established the Department of Nephrology at Medical College Gwalior in 2006.
