Indore, March 19, 2024: Due to changing lifestyles, heart disease problems are increasing rapidly. Not only in older adults but also among the youth, heart attacks are becoming more common. Every year, approximately 1.2 million people lose their lives due to heart disease. During a heart attack or cardiac arrest, a person's life can be saved by giving CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation). The concerning issue is that very few people are aware of this. To raise awareness and provide training on CPR, Gastroenterologist Dr. H.P. Yadav from Medanta Hospital gave a live demonstration at Nehru Stadium in Indore on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, informing people about CPR.
In the session, which started at 7 AM, a dummy body was used to demonstrate CPR, and misconceptions about it were addressed. Dr. Yadav showed that for CPR, the victim should first be laid on a solid surface, and the person giving first aid should kneel beside them. It is ensured that there is no blockage in the victim's airway by checking the nose and throat. Then, using both hands, the rescuer must press rapidly on the center of the chest 100 to 120 times per minute. After each push, the chest should be allowed to return to its normal position. This helps the heart pump the existing blood in the body. After 30 pushes, two breaths are given by placing a clean cloth over the mouth. This starts the blood flow in the body and supplies oxygen to the brain.
Dr. Yadav explained in detail that "Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is an emergency procedure that can help save someone's life if their heart stops beating. When a person's heart stops, it is called cardiac arrest. During cardiac arrest, the heart cannot pump blood to the rest of the body, including the brain and lungs. Without immediate treatment, the person can die within minutes."
During this special event, advice on CPR, heart disease, and a healthy lifestyle was provided, and related information was made available. The program was organized by Manish Gaur and the Jalebi Gang. The event saw participation from Plastic Surgeon Dr. Rajpal and runners of all ages from across the city.
