Breast Cancer Screening Camp at Medanta, Hundreds of Women Screened with AI-Based Thermal Sensor Device

Indore, 08 February 2024. The risk of cancer in India has increased significantly in recent years. According to the report by WHO’s cancer agency, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the most common cancers among men are of the lip, oral cavity, and lungs, while breast and cervical cancer cases are quite prevalent among women. Breast cancer alone accounts for 27% of new cancer cases. To raise awareness about this, World Cancer Day is observed on February 4th every year. This year's theme is "Close the Care Gap," highlighting the disparities in cancer care worldwide. On Thursday, 08 February 2024, a special camp was organized at Medanta Super Specialty Hospital in Indore to address the increasing incidence of breast cancer in women and its diagnosis. Hundreds of women were screened for breast cancer using an AI-based thermal sensor device. Dr. Namrata Kachhara, a cancer surgeon at Medanta Super Specialty Hospital, explained, "Breast cancer in women has increased rapidly over the past years, but early detection can prevent its severe consequences. Medical science has advanced significantly in recent years. Mammography has been the standard method for detecting breast cancer, but it is less effective for women under 45 years of age. Therefore, thermography is now being used for cancer detection. This thermal sensor device monitors the varying temperatures of the chest, takes images, analyzes them, and identifies abnormalities. It takes only 10-15 minutes. This device can easily detect tumors as small as 5 mm. It is not only small in size but can identify cancer in many patients in a short time. Early symptoms of breast cancer include small lumps or pimples in the breast, skin changes like swelling, redness, changes in the size of the breasts, pain in the breast or nipple, discharge from the nipple, lumps in the armpit, blood from the nipple, orange spots on the breast skin, lymph nodes in the neck or armpit, persistent itching in the breast for several days, and the skin of the breast becoming hard from underneath. If any of these symptoms are observed, immediately consult your doctor. To prevent breast cancer, pay more attention to your diet, reduce alcohol consumption, follow a healthy diet, exercise the breasts, or massage them gently."
